They received the following error during the import:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"706\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4731\" srcset=\"https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror.png 706w, https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror-300x142.png 300w, https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror-624x294.png 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 706px) 100vw, 706px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re facing the same issue, don\u2019t worry \u2014 I\u2019ll walk you through the steps I followed to <strong>identify and fix<\/strong> this error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Check Duplicates<\/strong> <strong>Field in Import file<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing I did was open the import file and check if the same field (column) was listed more than once. But everything looked fine \u2014 no field was repeated in the file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Check for Duplicate Display Name for Field<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past, I\u2019ve seen issues during data export when two fields in Dynamics 365 have the same display name. So I thought that might be the problem here too. I looked into the system and found that there were two fields with the exact same display name. To test it, I renamed one of them and tried the import again. But I still got the same error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Check for Plugin Tracing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then I turned on <strong>plugin tracing<\/strong> in Dynamics 365 to see if there were any errors logged that could help. But I didn\u2019t find anything related to this import issue in the logs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Check Network logs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, I opened the browser\u2019s <strong>Developer Tools<\/strong> and checked the <strong>Network tab<\/strong> while trying the import again. I was hoping it might show which field was causing the error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the network trace, I saw this message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"111\" src=\"https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror2-1024x111.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4732\" srcset=\"https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror2-1024x111.png 1024w, https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror2-300x33.png 300w, https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror2-768x84.png 768w, https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror2-624x68.png 624w, https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror2.png 1333w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see, there aren\u2019t many details here either. After trying many things, I finally discovered that the issue was caused by this specific field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"531\" height=\"381\" src=\"https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4733\" srcset=\"https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror3.png 531w, https:\/\/himbap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ImportErrror3-300x215.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 531px) 100vw, 531px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Since this was an import file for the Contact entity, it seems that this field was causing the error.
